Mongolian Yurts

A yurt is a round, portable tent used by nomadic people of Mongolia. Its wooden frame and thick felt covering keep families warm in winter and cool in summer. The roof has a central opening that lets smoke out and light in.

Yurts can be taken down and rebuilt quickly, which suits families who move with their herds of animals. Today many yurts are used as homes, guest houses or tourist accommodation.
