The Stapler

A stapler joins sheets of paper together by pushing a small metal staple through them. Staplers make it quick and easy to keep documents neat and together. Most staplers are spring-loaded, so they feed each staple automatically.

The first stapler was invented in the 1800s, and staples were originally made by hand. Today staplers are common in homes, offices and schools.
