All about Bar Graphs

A bar graph uses rectangular bars to compare amounts across categories. The length of each bar shows the size of the value, and the axes are labelled to show what is measured.

Bar graphs are easy to read and make comparisons quick.

Each bar stands for a category, such as a favourite fruit or a type of pet. The longer or taller the bar, the bigger the value it shows. Bar graphs can be drawn across or up and down.

To read a bar graph, look at the scale along one side and the labels underneath each bar. Then find the top of each bar and read off its value. Bar graphs make it easy to see which category is biggest or smallest.
