All about Equivalent Fractions

Equivalent fractions have the same value but look different, such as 1/2, 2/4 and 4/8. You find them by multiplying or dividing the top and bottom by the same number.

Spotting equivalent fractions makes it easier to add, subtract and compare fractions.

One half, two quarters and four eighths all describe the same amount of a whole.

For example, 1/2 multiplied top and bottom by 2 becomes 2/4.
