Probability

Probability tells how likely something is to happen, from 0 (impossible) to 1 (certain). Flipping a coin has a 1 in 2 chance of heads.

๐Ÿ’ก Fun fact

The chance of rolling a 6 on a fair die is 1 in 6.

All about Probability

Probability measures how likely an event is to happen. It is a number from 0, which means impossible, to 1, which means certain.

When you flip a fair coin, there are two equally likely outcomes, so the chance of heads is 1 in 2, or one half.

When you roll a dice, each number from 1 to 6 has a chance of 1 in 6. Probability helps us make sensible guesses about the future.

Frequently asked questions about Probability

What is the probability of rolling a 6 on a fair dice?

One in six, or about 0.17. There are six equally likely outcomes.

Does a coin land on heads more often after tails?

No. Each flip is independent, so the chance stays the same, even after a long run of tails.

How is probability written?

As a fraction, decimal or percentage. 1/2, 0.5 and 50% all mean the same chance.
