Bird Nests

Birds build nests to protect their eggs and chicks from weather, predators and cold. Nests are made from materials such as twigs, grass, mud, moss and feathers. Each species has its own building style, from simple cups on the ground to deep holes in trees.

Some birds, like weaver birds, build hanging nests that swing from branches to keep out snakes and monkeys. Other birds use a nest for only one season, while some return to the same nest year after year.
