Ladybirds

Ladybirds are small beetles with bright shells, often red with black spots. They eat aphids and other garden pests, which makes them useful friends for gardeners. Ladybirds release a yellow liquid from their legs to deter predators.

A ladybird can eat hundreds of aphids in its lifetime. Gardeners often encourage ladybirds by growing flowers that attract them and avoiding harsh chemicals.
