Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are small flying insects. Only female mosquitoes bite, because they need blood to help develop their eggs. Mosquitoes are an important food source for many animals, including birds, bats and fish.

Mosquitoes can spread diseases to people and animals, so people often use nets, repellents and screens to stay protected. Standing water is where mosquitoes lay their eggs, so removing it helps reduce their numbers.
