All about Sea Turtles

Sea turtles spend most of their lives in the ocean, but females return to sandy beaches to lay eggs. Hatchlings then race to the sea.

Many sea turtle species are endangered, so beaches and nesting sites are often protected.

They dig a hole with their back flippers, lay a clutch of eggs, cover them with sand and return to the sea. After some weeks the baby turtles hatch and scramble towards the water.

Sea turtles travel thousands of kilometres across oceans, often returning to the same beach where they were born. Many sea turtles are endangered because of hunting, fishing nets and plastic waste.
