All about Ocean Currents

Ocean currents are large, steady flows of water that move around the oceans. Some currents are warm and others are cold. They are driven by winds, the Earth's rotation and differences in water temperature and salt levels.

Currents carry heat around the planet and affect the climate of nearby land. The Gulf Stream, for example, carries warm water from the Gulf of Mexico towards Europe. Currents also move nutrients that feed fish and other sea life.
