Asteroid Deflection

Asteroid deflection is the idea of changing the path of an asteroid that is heading towards Earth. Scientists have tested methods such as crashing a spacecraft into an asteroid to change its orbit. Early warning is an important part of protecting the planet.

In 2022, NASA's DART mission crashed a spacecraft into an asteroid to test whether it could change its path. The test was successful, and the asteroid's orbit was slightly changed.
