Asteroid Mining

Asteroid mining is the idea of collecting valuable metals and minerals from asteroids. It is not yet practical, but scientists are studying it as a possible future resource. Asteroids may contain metals such as iron and nickel, as well as water.

Mining asteroids would require spacecraft that can reach them, drill into their surfaces and bring materials back to Earth or to space stations. Engineers are still working on these ideas.
