Space Elevators

A space elevator is an idea for a cable that would stretch from the ground into space, allowing things to be lifted into orbit without rockets. It is still a concept that engineers are studying.

A space elevator would need a cable stronger than any material made today. Scientists are researching materials such as carbon nanotubes that could one day make it possible.
