Egypt is a country in North Africa, and most of its people live near the Nile River. The Nile has supported farming and cities there for thousands of years. Beyond the river, much of Egypt is covered by desert.
Egypt is famous for its ancient monuments, including the pyramids at Giza and the temples at Luxor. Modern Egypt also has busy markets, museums and the city of Cairo, one of the largest cities in Africa.
