All about Crystals

A crystal is a solid whose particles are arranged in a regular, repeating pattern. This pattern gives crystals flat faces and sharp edges. Salt, sugar and many gems are crystals, and each type has its own shape.

Crystals often form when a liquid slowly cools or when water evaporates from a solution. Snowflakes are also tiny ice crystals, and most of them have six sides. Growing crystals at home with salt and water is a popular science activity.
