Water as a Solvent

Water is often called the universal solvent because it can dissolve more substances than any other common liquid. This is why water carries minerals and nutrients through rivers and into our bodies. Many chemical reactions happen in water for the same reason.

Your body is made up of about 60 percent water, which helps dissolve and transport nutrients, oxygen and waste. Without water, many of your body's processes could not happen.
