Janmashtami

Janmashtami is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna. People fast, sing devotional songs and break a pot called a matki filled with treats.

Some people form human pyramids to reach the high pot.

Temples hold special prayers at midnight, when Krishna is believed to have been born.

In some places, children dress as Krishna and his friends, and playful games like breaking a pot of butter called dahi handi are held. The festival is joyful and full of music.
