Meerkats

Meerkats are small mongooses that live in groups in the deserts of southern Africa. They dig burrows and spend much of the day foraging for insects and small animals. Groups often share the work of finding food and looking after the young.

Meerkats take turns standing guard, and the sentry stands on its back legs to watch for danger from above. If a predator appears, the sentry gives a warning call and the group quickly runs for cover.
