An ear infection happens when germs infect the middle part of the ear, which sits behind the eardrum. It can cause pain, a feeling of fullness and sometimes a temporary change in hearing. Ear infections are very common in young children.
Many ear infections clear up on their own within a few days. If the pain is strong, lasts a long time or comes with a fever, tell an adult so a doctor can check your ears. Never push objects into your ears to clean them.
